Carp Fishing Holidays in the USA

Mid May to early October offers excellent, prolific fishing for big carp. Fish from mid teens to thirties are common; there are forty and fifty pound specimens, and the local record stands at just over 60 pounds. In the USA you can fish two rods, although the bites can come so fast that using one rod is quite sufficient.

There’s mile upon mile of accessible bank fishing, easily reached by car, ranging from the St Lawrence itself to lots of smaller, more intimate, backwaters. A boat (hired cheaply in resort) allows you to explore this vast water system.

Boilies do work, but whether they are better than basic, cheap boiled maize is open to conjecture; we tend to concentrate on maize, It’s as natural a feed as it gets, but do boil it!

Zebra mussels can be a nuisance, cured by 80 pound braid. It may seem crude but it’s effective, you don’t lose fish, and you can’t put any more pressure on the fish than using lighter gear, so the fight is the same.
