Fly-drive or flight/transfers via Tromsø Airport. The crème de la crème of Norwegian
sea fishing. We have spent 6 years exploring this area and it is relatively untouched.
Fantastic cod, big coalies and huge halibut, plus haddock, flatties, wolffish
and redfish.
Our biggest cod have been caught here with cod into the late sixties. Forties are
caught but twenties and thirties are common. These are the summer coastal cod.
In late winter/early spring cod of monstrous sizes come into selected fjords off
the main Kvænangen to spawn and feed. Monster cod over 100 pounds have been
caught in gill nets and our guides best is 78 pounds on rod and line (on a 300 gramchrome Norway pirk). Dave Lewis has caught his three 50 pounders in this fjord, his
biggest now just over 54 pounds. The world record is here to be caught!!
Halibut, 30 to 100 pounders are caught each year and in late summer through into
September it is prime halibut time. Most are caught on pirks and shads by anglers
fishing for cod. A drifting deadbait (coalie) over sandy banks in around 80 metres of
depth should be tried. The big coalfish of 15 to 25 pounds arrive in summer too.
Wolffish, redfish and plaice are about year round.
