Southern Norway - fabulous for familiesSea Fishing Holidays in Norway

Southern Norway - fabulous for families

Our Avik Brygge apartments and specially selected cottages on the scenic south coast have rightly become highly popular, both with families and serious anglers. Along this coast (think of it as Cornwall, but more beautiful and with better fishing) the fjords are dotted with individual holiday cottages, close to the sea and enjoying fantastic views. The peaceful countryside is perfect for walking, cycling and photography. Fishing is far better than anything Britain can offer; no 100lb cod, but plenty of fish and lots of species. From boat or shore, it’s usually non-stop activity here. Getting to our cottages is easy; after a pleasant overnight crossing on the DFDS cruise ferry, your holiday home will probably be about one and a half hours drive fromthe port, if not less. If you prefer to get to your holiday destination more quickly, then you will be able to fly from Stansted to Southern Norway - fabulous for familiesKristiansand in less than an hour.

With its stunning scenery, most locals speaking good English and the short drive from Kristiansand, the south coast of Norway is a great place for a family sea fishing holiday. Nearby rivers have good salmon and trout fishing too. My preference is for shore fishing in summer and autumn; there are lots of decent marks to fish and you are assured of variety of species. You won’t catch the monsters that are caught in the far north, but you will get plenty of action.

Use UK methods and baits for shore fishing. We take over seabait ragworm in Aqua Paks; they live for days in cooler boxes. Crab, frozen mackerel, squid and mussel all work well too. Most cottages come with a boat. Whilst I prefer shore fishing, a boat does get you to lots of excellent fishing places. You never need to fish far away from shore; there are lots of islands and features to fish close to and depths vary greatly.

Most of the coastline has reasonable protection and shelter, but if it does blow up, there’s always plenty of shore fishing to fall back on. Fishing here from a boat is similar in style to the UK; use muppets, hokkies, daylites and shads as well as pirks. Remember, you are not
targeting really big fish - cod to 8 pounds and pollack to 12 pounds are attainable and there’s a huge variety of species here. John Bohill Sail-drive for the South/Southwest and Trondheim region…DFDS Newcastle to Stavanger/Haugsund/Bergen. This is a cruise ferry with excellent
standards of comfort, services and onboard facilities. Choice of dining (we can pre book discounted meal vouchers), currency exchange, duty free shopping, (Norway is outside the E.U. so you get your duty free allowance), cinema, bars and entertainment. You have a choice of cabins – our standard is a 2/3/4 berth cabin with shower/toilet and air conditioning.

You may upgrade to an outside cabin, twin bedded cabin or Commodore Class cabins/staterooms. This really is a comfortable and relaxing cruise journey.
